Setting Up Email in Airmail (Mac) – Firstserv Guide

This guide explains how to configure your Firstserv email account in the Airmail app on macOS.

Before You Begin

Make sure:

  • ✅ Your mailbox has already been created in cPanel
  • ✅ You have your email address and password
  • ✅ You have your mail server settings (if required)

Choosing Your Setup Method

There are two setup options. We recommend Option 1 where possible.

Option 1 (Recommended): Use mail.yourdomain

Example

If your domain is:

example.co.uk

Use:

mail.example.co.uk

for both:

  • Incoming (IMAP) server
  • Outgoing (SMTP) server

Requirements

  • Your domain’s A record points to your Firstserv server
  • SSL is enabled (Let’s Encrypt is issued automatically once configured)

Benefits

✅ No need to reconfigure email clients if you move servers
✅ More consistent and future-proof setup

Option 2: Use Server Hostname

  • Uses your hosting server hostname instead
  • No prerequisites required

⚠️ If you change hosting servers later, you will need to update your email settings.

Step-by-Step Setup in Airmail

Step 1: Open Airmail

  • Launch Airmail from your Applications folder or Dock

If You Already Have Accounts Set Up

  1. Click Airmail → Preferences
  2. Open the Accounts section
  3. Click the + (Add Account) button
  4. Select New Account

Step 2: Choose Account Type

  • Select IMAP from the available options
  • Click Add

Step 3: Enter Account Details

Fill in the following:

  • Name: Your display name (shown to recipients)
  • Email: Your full email address
  • Password: Your mailbox password
  • Username: Your full email address

Incoming Mail Server

  • Server:
    • mail.yourdomain.com (recommended)
    • or your server hostname

Outgoing Mail Server

  • Server: Same as incoming server

Authentication

  • ✅ Enabled
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your mailbox password

Step 4: Complete Setup

  • Click Add

✅ Airmail will automatically complete the remaining configuration

What Happens Next

  • Your account will be added
  • You’ll be taken to your Inbox
  • Existing emails will begin syncing automatically
  • If it’s a new mailbox, your inbox will appear empty until messages are received

Recommended Settings

If you need to confirm:

Incoming (IMAP)

  • Port: 993
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Outgoing (SMTP)

  • Port: 465 or 587
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Why Use IMAP?

  • Keeps emails stored on the server
  • Syncs across multiple devices
  • Reduces risk of data loss

Summary

To set up Airmail:

  1. Add a new account via Preferences
  2. Choose IMAP
  3. Enter your email and server details
  4. Enable authentication
  5. Complete setup and sync your mailbox
