Setting Up Email in Microsoft Outlook (Windows) – Firstserv Guide
This guide explains how to set up your Firstserv email account in Microsoft Outlook on a Windows PC or laptop.
Before You Begin
Make sure:
- ✅ You have already created your email account in cPanel
- ✅ You have your email address and password ready
- ✅ You know your mail server settings (if needed)
Choosing Your Setup Method
There are two ways to configure Outlook. We recommend Option 1 where possible.
Option 1 (Recommended): Use mail.yourdomain
Example
If your domain is:
example.co.uk
Use:
mail.example.co.uk
for both incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers.
Requirements
- Your domain’s A record points to your Firstserv server
- SSL is enabled for your domain (Let’s Encrypt is issued automatically)
Benefits
✅ No need to update email settings if you change servers
✅ Cleaner and more consistent configuration
Option 2: Use Server Hostname
- Uses your server’s hostname instead of your domain
- Requires no prerequisites
⚠️ Important:
- If you change hosting servers later, you’ll need to reconfigure your email client
Step-by-Step Setup in Outlook
Step 1: Open Outlook
- If this is your first account, you may see a setup screen
- Otherwise:
- Click File → Add Account
Step 2: Enter Your Email Address
- Enter your email address
- Click Advanced options
- Tick:
Let me set up my account manually - Click Connect
Step 3: Choose Account Type
Select:
- ✅ IMAP (Recommended)
Why IMAP?
- Emails are stored on the server
- Accessible from multiple devices
- Safer and easier to manage
⚠️ POP downloads emails to your device and may not keep server copies.
Step 4: Enter Server Settings
Use the following:
Incoming Mail (IMAP)
- Server:
mail.yourdomain.co.uk(or server hostname) - Port:
993 - Encryption: SSL/TLS
Outgoing Mail (SMTP)
- Server:
mail.yourdomain.co.uk(or server hostname) - Port:
465or587 - Encryption: SSL/TLS
⚠️ Ensure:
- ❌ Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT enabled
Step 5: Enter Your Password
- Input your email account password
- Click Connect
Step 6: Finish Setup
- Click Done
✅ Your email account is now configured and ready to use in Outlook.
What You Should See
- Inbox syncing with your server
- Ability to send and receive emails immediately
Troubleshooting Tips
- Double-check your password
- Confirm SSL is enabled
- Use an incognito/private window if testing webmail access
- Ensure your domain is pointing correctly
Summary
To set up Outlook:
