Setting Up Email in the Gmail App (Android) – Firstserv Guide

This guide explains how to set up your Firstserv email account using the Gmail app on your Android device.

Before You Begin

Make sure:

  • ✅ Your email account has been created in cPanel
  • ✅ You have your email address and password
  • ✅ You have your mail server settings (if needed)

Choosing Your Setup Method

There are two configuration options. We recommend Option 1 where possible.

Option 1 (Recommended): Use mail.yourdomain

Example

If your domain is:

example.co.uk

Use:

mail.example.co.uk

for both:

  • Incoming (IMAP) server
  • Outgoing (SMTP) server

Requirements

  • Your domain’s A record points to your Firstserv server
  • SSL is enabled (a Let’s Encrypt certificate is issued automatically)

Benefits

✅ No need to update settings if you change hosting servers
✅ Cleaner, more reliable setup

Option 2: Use Server Hostname

  • Uses your server hostname instead
  • No prerequisites required

⚠️ If your hosting changes later, you will need to update your email settings across all devices.

Step-by-Step Setup in the Gmail App

Step 1: Open Gmail

  • Launch the Gmail app

If You Already Have Accounts

  1. Tap the menu icon (☰)
  2. Scroll down and tap the Settings (gear icon)

  • Server:
    • mail.yourdomain.com (recommended)
    • or your server hostname
  • Port: 993
  • Security type: SSL/TLS

Tap Next

Step 7: Configure Outgoing Mail Server

Check and confirm:

  • SMTP server:
    • mail.yourdomain.com (recommended)
    • or your server hostname
  • Port: 465 or 587
  • Security type: SSL/TLS
  • Require sign-in: Enabled
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your email password

Tap Next

Step 8: Sync Settings

  • Tap Next

Step 9: Finalise Setup

Why Use IMAP?

  • Keeps emails stored on the server

  • Reduces risk of losing messages
