Setting Up Email on iPhone (Mail App) – Firstserv Guide

This guide explains how to set up your Firstserv email account on an iPhone using the built-in Mail app.

πŸ“± The same steps also apply to iPad devices.


Before You Begin

Make sure:

  • βœ… Your mailbox has been created in cPanel
  • βœ… You have your email address and password ready
  • βœ… You have your mail server settings

Choosing Your Setup Method

There are two ways to configure your email account. We recommend Option 1 where possible.


Option 1 (Recommended): Use mail.yourdomain

Example

If your domain is:

example.co.uk

Use:

mail.example.co.uk

for both incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers.


Requirements

  • Your domain’s A record points to your Firstserv server
  • SSL is enabled (Let’s Encrypt is issued automatically once connected)

Benefits

βœ… No need to update settings if you change servers
βœ… Cleaner and more reliable setup


Option 2: Use Server Hostname

  • Uses your hosting server name instead
  • Works without prerequisites

⚠️ If you change hosting servers in future, you’ll need to update your email settings on all devices.


Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Open Mail Settings

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail
  3. Tap Accounts
  4. Tap Add Account

Step 2: Choose Account Type

  1. Tap Other
  2. Tap Add Mail Account

Step 3: Enter Basic Account Details

Fill in the following:

  • Name: Your name (as shown to recipients)
  • Email: Your full email address
  • Password: Your mailbox password
  • Description: A label for the account

Tap Next


Step 4: Choose IMAP

At the top, select:

  • βœ… IMAP (Recommended)

Step 5: Enter Mail Server Settings

Incoming Mail Server

  • Host Name:
    • mail.yourdomain.com (recommended)
    • or your server hostname
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your email password

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

  • Host Name: Same as incoming server
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your email password

Tap Next


Step 6: Enable Mail Sync

  • Ensure Mail is enabled
  • You can optionally enable Notes if required

Tap Save


Step 7: Verify Advanced Settings

  1. Tap your newly created email account
  2. Under IMAP, tap your email address

Check SMTP Settings

  1. Tap SMTP
  2. Tap Primary Server
  3. Ensure:
  • Server: ON
  • Use SSL: ON
  • Authentication: Password
  • Server Port: 465 or 587

Tap Done


Check IMAP Settings

  1. Tap Account β†’ Advanced
  2. Ensure:
  • Use SSL: ON
  • Authentication: Password
  • IMAP Path Prefix: INBOX
  • Server Port: 993

Tap Done


Final Step

Your email account is now ready to use in the Mail app βœ…

You should be able to:

  • Send emails
  • Receive emails
  • Sync your mailbox across devices
