Why Has My Hosting Account Been Suspended? (Firstserv)
At Firstserv, account suspensions are only carried out when absolutely necessary. If you see a message indicating that your website is temporarily offline, it is typically due to one of the following reasons:
1. Overdue Hosting Invoice
Hosting invoices are issued thirty days before the renewal date, with an additional thirty-days grace period after the due date, giving you a total of thirty days to make payment.
During this time, we will send multiple reminder emails before any action is taken.
How to resolve:
- Log in to your Firstserv Client Area
- Pay the outstanding invoice
- Your hosting account will usually be reactivated automatically within minutes
2. Security Concerns (Compromised Website or Email Account)
We implement a range of proactive security measures to protect your services, including:
- Real-time scanning of uploaded files
- Routine malware scans using both open-source and proprietary databases
- Monitoring for unusual or suspicious email activity
If a potential threat is detected—such as malware or compromised scripts—your account may be suspended to:
- Protect your website and data
- Safeguard our network and other customers
- Prevent reputational damage (e.g. blacklisting due to spam)
Similarly, if your account is found to be:
- Sending large volumes of emails to invalid addresses
- Generating spam complaints
it may be temporarily suspended while we investigate.
What Happens Next?
If your account has been suspended for security reasons, you will typically receive a Security Notice outlining the issue and the steps required to resolve it.
