Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) – Firstserv

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Firstserv Client Area by requiring a second step during login.

In addition to your password (something you know), 2FA requires a second factor—typically a code generated by an app or device you own (something you have). This means that even if your password is compromised, your account remains secure unless the second factor is also available.

Why is 2FA Important?

Passwords can be vulnerable due to:

  • Phishing or malware attacks
  • Use of insecure networks
  • Reuse across multiple accounts
  • Weak or easily guessed credentials

By enabling 2FA, your account is protected by an additional verification step, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorised access.

Supported 2FA Methods

Firstserv supports the following authentication options:

  • Authenticator Apps (One-Time Passwords)
These apps generate a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
    Popular options include:

    • Google Authenticator
    • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Security Keys (Hardware Devices)
Physical devices such as YubiKeys provide a secure and convenient method of authentication.

Tip: Install an authenticator app on your device before starting the setup process.
