Transferring a .gov.uk Domain to Firstserv

Firstserv supports .gov.uk domains and provides a straightforward process for transferring and managing them. This guide outlines the steps to move your domain to Firstserv while ensuring your website remains active and secure.


Before You Begin

Please check the following before starting your transfer:

  • ✅ Your domain contact details are up to date with your current provider
  • ✅ The domain is not transfer-locked
  • ✅ You have access to your current domain provider account

Step 1: Request Your Authorisation (EPP) Code

⏱️ Estimated time: 1–2 business days

  1. Identify your current domain provider
    • Check previous invoices or contact your provider if unsure
  2. Request your authorisation (EPP) code
    • Usually done via email or support ticket

⚠️ Some providers may require identity verification before releasing the code.


Step 2: Submit a Transfer Request to Firstserv

⏱️ Estimated time:

  • 15–30 minutes to submit
  • 1–3 business days to process

How to Request the Transfer

  1. Log in to your Firstserv Client Area
  2. Go to the Support section
  3. Click Open Ticket
  4. Select Technical Support

Include the Following Details

  • Your .gov.uk domain name
  • The authorisation (EPP) code

Step 3: Transfer Processing

⏱️ Estimated time: 1–2 business days

  • Firstserv will initiate the transfer
  • We’ll handle communication with the domain registry (Nominet)
  • No additional action is required from you during this stage

Step 4: Confirmation

Once completed:

  • ✅ You’ll receive a confirmation email
  • ✅ Your domain will appear in your Firstserv account
  • ✅ The renewal/expiry date will be updated accordingly

Costs

  • Transfer fee: Free (no charge for incoming transfers)
  • 💳 Renewal cost: £10 + VAT per year
