Top-Level Domains (TLDs) – Firstserv Guide

A Top-Level Domain (TLD) is the part of a web address that appears after the final dot, such as:

example.com
example.co.uk

This guide outlines the domain extensions you can manage with Firstserv, along with some important notes about specific TLDs.

TLDs Available with Firstserv

You can register, renew, or transfer the following domain extensions through your Firstserv account.

🇬🇧 UK Domains

.co.uk
.uk
.org.uk
.me.uk
.ltd.uk

🌍 International Domains

.com
.net
.org
.info
.biz
.me
.co
.io
.tv
.eco

🏴 Regional Domains

.wales
.cymru
.london
.scot

What You Can Do

With the supported TLDs above, you can:

  • Register a brand-new domain
  • Renew an existing domain to keep it active
  • Transfer a domain from another provider to Firstserv

Restricted Domain Extensions

Some domain types have strict eligibility requirements.

.gov.uk Domains

  • Only available to UK government and public sector organisations

.ac.uk Domains

  • Only available to recognised UK academic institutions

👉 If you believe you’re eligible:

  • Contact the Firstserv support team
  • We’ll guide you through the application process

.sch.uk Domains

  • ❌ Cannot be registered directly through Firstserv
  • ✅ Can be managed once transferred

How It Works

  1. Register your .sch.uk domain via Nominet
  2. Transfer it to Firstserv using our IPS tag
  3. We’ll manage it for you going forward

Using Unsupported TLDs

If a domain extension you want isn’t listed:

✅ You can still:

  • Register it with another registrar
  • Use Firstserv for:
    • Website hosting
    • DNS management
    • Email services

How to Connect It

After registering elsewhere:

  • Update your domain to point to:
    ns1.firstserv.com
    ns2.firstserv.com

Important Notes

  • Some TLDs have specific registration rules

Example:

  • .ltd.uk:
    • Must be registered to a UK limited company
    • Domain name must match the company name

  • Domain availability and pricing may vary
  • Always check the latest details in your Firstserv Client Area

Summary

  • A TLD is the extension at the end of your domain name
  • Firstserv supports a wide range of UK, international, and regional domains
  • Some domains (e.g. .gov.uk, .ac.uk) require eligibility checks
  • Unsupported TLDs can still be used with Firstserv hosting
