Updating Domain Contact Details (Firstserv Guide)

When you register a domain name, you are required to provide contact information. Keeping this information accurate is essential for maintaining ownership and ensuring your domain remains active.

Types of Domain Contacts

The number of contacts depends on the domain type:

.uk Domains

  • ✅ Only a Primary Contact is used

Other Domains (e.g. .com, .net, .org)

You may see multiple contact roles:

  • Registrant (Owner)
  • Administrative Contact
  • Billing Contact
  • Technical Contact

✅ All contact details should be kept accurate and up to date

Why Keeping Contact Details Updated Matters

  • ✅ Ensures you receive renewal reminders
  • ✅ Confirms domain ownership
  • ✅ Prevents loss of access or control

⚠️ If your contact details are outdated and you miss renewal notices, your domain could expire and be lost

How to Update Contact Details

Step 1: Log in to the Client Area

  • Access your Firstserv Client Area
  • Log in using your account credentials

Step 2: Go to Your Domains

  1. Click My Domains
  2. Select the domain you want to manage
  3. Click Manage Domain (if required)

Step 3: Open Contact Information

  • Click Contact Information from the menu

Step 4: Update Details

  • Edit the required fields
  • Ensure all information is accurate and current

Step 5: Save Changes

  • Click Save Changes to apply updates

Important Notes

For .uk Domains

  • Editing the Primary Contact does not change the legal registrant (owner)
  • To change ownership, you must go through Nominet’s official process using the registrant’s email address

For Non-UK Domains

⚠️ Changing the following fields will trigger a 60-day transfer lock:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Organisation
  • Email address

During this time:

  • ❌ You cannot transfer the domain to another provider

👉 This policy is set by ICANN, not Firstserv

Summary

  • Keep domain contact details accurate and up to date
  • Update details via Client Area → My Domains
  • .uk domains use a single primary contact
  • Other domains may have multiple contacts
  • Changes to key details may trigger a 60-day transfer restriction
