Email Configuration Settings (Firstserv Guide)

This guide explains how to find the details required to manually set up your Firstserv email account in most email clients. It also includes an overview of IMAP, POP, and SMTP to help you choose the right setup.

Before You Begin

Ensure:

  • ✅ Your email account has been created in cPanel
  • ✅ You have your email address and password
  • ✅ You are using a client that supports secure connections (SSL/TLS)

Checking Your Login Details

Email Address & Password

  • Your email address is the one created in cPanel
  • Your password was set at creation

If forgotten:

  • Reset it via cPanel → Email Accounts

Test Your Login

You can confirm your credentials are correct by logging into webmail:

  • ✅ If login works → your details are correct
  • ❌ If it fails → reset your password and try again

Finding Your Mail Server Settings

You can retrieve all required settings directly in cPanel:

Steps

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. Go to Email → Email Accounts
  3. Click Manage next to your email address
  4. Click Connect Devices

Standard Mail Settings

Use the following values when configuring your email client:

Incoming Mail (IMAP – Recommended)

Server: mail.yourdomain.com
Port: 993
Encryption: SSL/TLS
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Incoming Mail (POP3 – Optional)

Server: mail.yourdomain.com
Port: 995
Encryption: SSL/TLS
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Outgoing Mail (SMTP)

Server: mail.yourdomain.com
Port: 587 (preferred)
Encryption: STARTTLS
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Alternative:

Port: 465
Encryption: SSL/TLS

If Port Fields Are Missing

Some email apps may not allow separate port entries.

In that case, you can specify it like this:

mail.yourdomain.com:587

Which Protocol Should I Use?

IMAP (Recommended)

  • Syncs email across all devices
  • Emails stay on the server
  • Ideal for phones, laptops, and multiple users

⚠️ POP3

  • Downloads emails to one device
  • May remove messages from the server
  • Not suitable for multi-device use

SMTP (Sending Mail)

  • Used by all email clients to send messages
  • Works with IMAP or POP
  • Requires authentication and secure connection

Important Notes

  • ✅ Always use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS encryption
  • ✅ Use your full email address as the username
  • ✅ Ensure DNS is correctly pointing if using mail.yourdomain
  • ✅ Modern clients usually auto-detect settings, but manual config may be required

Troubleshooting

If setup fails:

  • Double-check your password
  • Ensure SSL is enabled for your domain
  • Verify server names are correct
  • Try webmail to confirm account access

Summary

To configure your email client:

  1. Retrieve settings from cPanel → Connect Devices
  2. Use IMAP (recommended) or POP3
  3. Enter server names, ports, and SSL settings
  4. Test and confirm email syncing
