Using LiteSpeed Image Optimisation (Firstserv Guide)

This guide complements our articles on installing the LiteSpeed Cache plugin and optimising your WordPress website.

Before continuing, please ensure:

  • The LiteSpeed Cache plugin is installed and active
  • Your images are pre-optimised where possible (correct size and resolution before uploading)

Important Recommendations

To avoid conflicts and achieve the best performance:

  • ✅ Use only LiteSpeed Cache for caching and optimisation
  • ✅ Remove any other caching plugins
  • ✅ If using LiteSpeed Image Optimisation, remove other image optimisation plugins

Step 1: Obtain a QUIC.cloud API Key

Before using LiteSpeed Image Optimisation, you must connect your site to QUIC.cloud.

  • Obtain your API key using our separate Firstserv guide
  • This enables LiteSpeed to process and optimise your images

Step 2: Configure Image Optimisation Settings

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to:
    LiteSpeed Cache → Image Optimisation
  2. Open the Image Optimization Settings tab

Recommended Settings

We suggest the following configuration (you can adjust if needed):

  • Auto Request Cron: ON
  • Create WebP Versions: ON
  • Image WebP Replacement: ON
  1. Click Save Changes

Step 3: Gather Image Data

  1. Go to the Image Optimization Summary tab
  2. Click Gather Image Data

✅ You’ll see a confirmation showing how many images have been detected.

Step 4: Start Optimisation

  1. Click Send Optimization Request

LiteSpeed will:

  • Begin by processing one image initially (to verify everything is working)
  • Then automatically process additional images in batches over time

How It Works

  • Optimisation runs in the background using the cron system
  • Images are gradually:
    • Compressed
    • Converted to modern formats (e.g. WebP)
  • Any new images uploaded will also be automatically optimised (if Auto Request Cron is enabled)

Benefits of LiteSpeed Image Optimisation

Using this tool helps:

✅ Reduce image file sizes
✅ Improve page load speed
✅ Save bandwidth
✅ Enhance overall website performance
✅ Automatically generate WebP images for modern browsers

Best Practices

  • Continue uploading optimised images where possible
  • Monitor optimisation progress in the LiteSpeed dashboard
  • Avoid running multiple optimisation tools simultaneously

Further Optimisation

LiteSpeed offers additional advanced options for:

  • Compression levels
  • WebP handling
  • Image quality control

For detailed configuration options, refer to LiteSpeed’s official documentation for the most up-to-date guidance.

Summary

With LiteSpeed Image Optimisation enabled, your site will:

  • Automatically optimise existing and new images
  • Deliver faster load times
  • Improve performance and user experience

If you need help setting up LiteSpeed optimisation or configuring your site, the Firstserv support team is always available to assist.
