Calendars & Contacts in cPanel (Firstserv Guide)

Firstserv periodically upgrades its servers to ensure improved performance, stability, and security. As part of these updates, cPanel has introduced changes to how calendars and contacts are managed.

What’s Changed?

In newer versions of cPanel (v120 and above):

  • The old Calendar and Contacts Server (CCS) plugin has been removed
  • Support has been replaced with modern standards:
    • ✅ CalDAV (for calendars)
    • ✅ CardDAV (for contacts)

These are now handled by the built-in cpdavd service

What is CalDAV? (Calendars)

CalDAV is used to manage and synchronise calendar data.

How It Works

  • Syncs calendar events across devices
  • Updates automatically when changes are made

✅ Example:

  • Add an event on your phone → it appears on your laptop and tablet

Benefits

  • Keeps all your calendars in sync
  • Works across multiple devices and platforms

What is CardDAV? (Contacts)

CardDAV is used to manage and synchronise contact lists.

How It Works

  • Syncs contacts across devices
  • Updates automatically when contacts are added or edited

✅ Example:

  • Add a contact on your tablet → it appears on your phone and computer

Benefits

  • Keeps your contact list consistent everywhere
  • No need to manually duplicate entries

What is cpdavd?

cpdavd is a background service that powers CalDAV and CardDAV in cPanel.

What It Provides

It enables:

  • ✅ Calendar synchronisation
  • ✅ Contact synchronisation
  • ✅ Web Disk access
  • ✅ Sharing of calendars and contacts

Where to Access in cPanel

  • Calendars & Contacts Management
  • Calendars & Contacts Sharing
  • Web Disk (for file access)

What This Means for You

  • ✅ All existing calendar and contact data is retained
  • ⚠️ You may need to reconfigure your devices

Why Reconfiguration Is Needed

Devices using older CCS configurations will need to:

  • Be reconnected using CalDAV/CardDAV settings
  • Have accounts re-added on your devices

Setting Up on Your Devices

You’ll need to re-add your accounts depending on your device:

🍎 Apple Devices (macOS & iOS)

  • Add account using CalDAV / CardDAV
  • Use your email address and password

🤖 Android Devices

  • Use apps like:
    • DAVx5 (recommended)
  • Add your account using CalDAV/CardDAV details

🐧 Linux (Thunderbird)

  • Use built-in or add-on CalDAV/CardDAV support
  • Configure using your account credentials

Summary

  • cPanel now uses CalDAV and CardDAV instead of the old system
  • Your data remains safe and unchanged
  • You may need to reconfigure your devices
  • Synchronisation is now more modern and reliable
