Setting Up a CDN with LiteSpeed Cache (Firstserv Guide)

This guide explains how to configure your Content Delivery Network (CDN) with WordPress using the LiteSpeed Cache plugin on Firstserv hosting.

Before You Begin

This guide assumes:

  • ✅ You have an active Firstserv CDN plan
  • ✅ (Optional) You’ve configured a custom CDN hostname
    • If not, use the default CDN domain (e.g. ending in b-cdn.net)
  • ✅ Your WordPress site is using the LiteSpeed Cache plugin
  • ✅ Your website is already fully optimised

⚠️ Important: A CDN should be added after optimisation, not before. Make sure your site is already performing well to get the best results.

Step 1: Open LiteSpeed CDN Settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard
  2. Navigate to:
    LiteSpeed Cache → Settings
  3. Click Show Advanced Options
  4. Open the CDN tab

Step 2: Enable CDN Integration

  • Set Enable CDN to ON

Step 3: Enter CDN Details

Fill in the following fields:

CDN URL

  • Enter your CDN hostname, including https://
  • Example:
    https://cdn.yourdomain.com

(or your default CDN URL if you’re not using a custom hostname)

Original URL

  • Enter your website URL, prefixed with //
  • Example:
    //yourdomain.com

Step 4: Configure Cached Content

By default, the CDN will serve:

  • Images
  • CSS files
  • JavaScript files

✅ You can customise this by:

  • Including additional file types or directories
  • Excluding specific paths if required

Step 5: Save Your Settings

  • Click Save Changes at the top or bottom of the page

Step 6: Purge Cache

To ensure your CDN begins serving updated content:

  1. Hover over the LiteSpeed icon in the WordPress admin bar
  2. Click Purge All

Step 7: Verify CDN is Working

To confirm everything is set up correctly:

  1. Visit your website
  2. Open your browser’s Developer Tools → Network tab
  3. Reload the page
  4. Look for static assets (images, CSS, JS)

✅ These should now load from your CDN URL instead of your main domain.

Best Practices

  • ✅ Only enable CDN after optimising your website
  • ✅ Regularly purge cache after major updates
  • ✅ Test your site after enabling CDN to ensure everything loads correctly
  • ✅ Avoid caching dynamic or sensitive content unless required

Summary

By enabling a CDN with LiteSpeed Cache, you can:

  • Deliver content faster from global edge locations
  • Reduce load on your hosting server
  • Improve website performance and user experience

If you need help configuring your CDN or troubleshooting performance, the Firstserv support team is always available to assist.
